NORRISTOWN, Pa. -- Genuardi's Family Markets, based here, saw a 12% increase in attendance at its 6th Annual Baby & Toddler Expo held here last month.

over the three-day show.

It was held at the Fort Washington Expo Center, Fort Washington, Pa., in the southeastern part of the state, from April 16 to 18. "Attendance is one of the markers for success; so is the feedback that we receive from customers," said Crager.

In addition to the Genuardi's Pavilion, 30 vendors were featured at the Expo. They sampled products, handed out coupons and some provided entertainment. Vendors included Procter & Gamble, Del Monte, Breyers, Pepsi, Playtex, Nabisco, Beech-Nut, Drypers, Gerber, Frito-Lay, Kraft, Turkey Hill, Huggies and Johnson & Johnson.

In the rest of the space, companies sold or pitched anything from murals for baby's room to minivans to carry the family around.

Crager said Genuardi's benefits from the Expo by "reaching out to the local community to showcase not only the type of company we are but also our products.

"We did demo a lot of private-label products, and it's a great way to get that into the hand of the consumer who might not know about it," she said.

The chain demoed more products for toddlers than for infants, in private-label cereals, juices, cookies, and the like, Crager said.

"It's a good way to get a pulse of the community, and talk to them about the supermarket."

Admission was $7 for adults and $5 for children older than age two. Genuardi's offered $1-off coupons for the event at all its stores.
