Safeway Appoints Senior VP, CIO
here has appointed David T. Ching senior vice president and chief information officer.
As chief information officer, Ching will oversee Safeway's recently reorganized information technology functions in the United States and Canada. He will report to Julian C. Day, executive vice president and chief financial officer. Day had served as acting chief information officer prior to Ching's appointment. Before joining Safeway, Ching spent 14 years with Lucky Stores, Dublin, Calif., where he served as senior vice president in charge of information systems. He also worked for Bell Canada and Control Data Canada, Toronto.
Ching earned his master of science degree in management science from the Sloan Program at Stanford University, Stanford, Calif.
