Super Food Division Creates Two Posts

f Super Food Services here announced two executive appointments.

James Gohsman was appointed director of merchandising, a new post. He reports to division manager Doug Stone. Gohsman most recently served as grocery merchandising manager. He has been with SFS for 17 years.

Tom Horwath was appointed as assistant controller, also a new position. He reports to John Wegrzyn, controller. Horwath was most recently a public accountant for a regional public accounting firm.

Super Food Services, headquartered in Miamisburg, Ohio, is a full-service wholesaler supplying some 850 supermarkets in six states.

Two Retiring at Supervalu

MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu here has announced the retirement of two key executives. Both are effective Feb. 29.

Jack Toy will retire as president of the Fargo, N.D., division, a position he has held since 1983. Toy joined Supervalu in 1959 as a corporate store manager and has held a variety of executive positions in the Fargo; Bismarck, N.D., and Billings, Mont., divisions.

Marv Erdmann will retire as president of the Bismarck division, a position he has held since 1977. After joining Supervalu in 1963 as a field representative for its Minneapolis division, he held several managerial positions before being named to his current position. Prior to being hired by Supervalu, Erdmann was employed by A&P, Montvale, N.J.

Neither position will be filled because of Supervalu's reconfigured regional structure. Gary Zimmerman, president of Supervalu's Northern Region, will oversee the Fargo and Bismarck divisions. Zimmerman is based here.

Pantry Foods VP Retires at H-E-B

SAN ANTONIO -- Dick Gregory has retired as vice president of the Pantry Foods marketing division of H.E. Butt Grocery Co. here. Gregory is now president of the 825-member H-E-B Retiree Club.

Gregory began his career in the supermarket industry 42 years ago with Jewel Food Stores, Melrose Park, Ill. He joined H-E-B in 1979 as director of grocery marketing and went on to hold several other positions before assuming his most recent one.

H-E-B has not yet determined whether Gregory's position will be filled, according to a company spokesman. The Pantry division is a group of 70 supermarkets concentrated in eastern Texas.

Haggen Taps Group Sales, Marketing VP

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Haggen Inc. here announced that Jeff Little was named group vice president of sales and marketing, a new position. He reports to Don Haggen, chairman and chief executive officer of the company.

Prior to joining Haggen in 1989 as director of perishables, Little worked for Kroger Co., Cincinnati, for 21 years. His most recent position at Haggen, that of vice president of general merchandise, will not be filled.

Gelson's Selects Marketer

ENCINO, Calif. -- Gelson's Markets here announced that Camilla Bravo was named director of marketing. She is responsible for overseeing the chain's strategic planning and the execution of marketing, advertising and public relations activities.

Bravo reports to Allan Scharn, president of Gelson's. Bravo succeeds Janet Clancy, who has left the company.

Bravo was most recently director of creative services with Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Foster City, Calif.

New Jersey Group Picks Board

TRENTON, N.J. -- The New Jersey Food Council here elected a chairman and other officers at its annual membership meeting late last month. All officers are elected for one year.

Joseph Pagano, president of Pagano's IGA Market in Bayonne, N.J., was re-elected to his third term as chairman of the board.

Stan Sorkin, vice president of public affairs for Pathmark Stores, Woodbridge, N.J., was elected to his first term as vice chairman.

Donald Norkus, president of Francis Markets, a Foodtown operation in Neptune City, N.J., was elected to his second term as secretary.

Robert Davidson, president of Davidson's Foodtowns in North Brunswick, N.J., was elected to his fifth term as treasurer.

NGA Appoints Elledge

RESTON, Va. -- The National Grocers Association here appointed Lisa Elledge director of government relations. She succeeds Peggy Rochette, who has left the organization.

Elledge is responsible for all government relations activities, including the development of a legislative strategy and the coordination of grass-roots activities with various arms of the association. She reports to Thomas Wenning, senior vice president and general counsel of NGA.

For the last three-and-a-half years, Elledge has served as a legislative assistant to U.S. Rep. Larry Combest, R-Texas.

NAWGA Names Marketing VP

FALLS CHURCH, Va. -- The National-American Wholesale Grocers' Association here has named Scott Ramminger vice president, communications and marketing.

He succeeds Patrick B. Haggerty, who resigned last November.

Prior to joining NAWGA, Ramminger was director of marketing and communications for the National Concrete Masonry Association, Herndon, Va. From 1982 to 1988 he was director of communications for the American Frozen Food Institute, McLean, Va.
