rd Bros. Co. here said Karen Fernald has been promoted to director of retail operations for new concept stores. Fernald has worked in retail operations, management planning, marketing and merchandising for the company. Most recently, she served as district manager, responsible for 11 Maine Shop 'n Save stores. In her new position, Fernald will be responsible for the continued development, operation and evaluation of Hannaford's new format stores in a variety of regions.

Hannaford also promoted Rick Meyerkopf to director of retail operations, Eastern division. Meyerkopf has worked for Hannaford for 20 years, serving most recently as director of meat and seafood merchandising. In his new position, he is responsible for maximizing sales, exploring strategic opportunities and providing business focus in all 68 Hannaford and Shop 'n Save stores in Maine and New Hampshire.

The company also said Robert Schools has been promoted to director of retail operations, Western division. Since joining the company in 1975, Schools has served in a variety of positions in Vermont, New York, Maine and New Hampshire, most recently working as director of retail capital improvements and planning. In his new position, Schools will oversee Hannaford and Shop 'n Save operations and growth opportunities in Vermont, New York and Massachusetts.

Bailey Joins Clemens Markets

KULPSVILLE, Pa. -- Clemens Markets here said it has named Marianne Bailey manager, advertising services. Previously, she was director of advertising services for Genuardi's Markets, Norristown, Pa., a Safeway chain.

FDI Government Relations VP NAMED

WASHINGTON -- Food Distributors International here said David French has been named vice president, government relations. He succeeds Kevin Burke, who left the position to become president and chief executive officer of the American Apparel and Footwear Association. Prior to his new appointment, French had been director of government relations for FDI since August 1998.
