Albertson's Taps Three VPs

on's here has announced three vice presidential appointments.

Michael J. Read, who started with the company as an attorney in 1984, has been named vice president of public affairs. The director of public relations and governmental affairs since 1993, Read continues his previous responsibilities in this new position. He reports to Tom Saldin, executive vice president of administration and general counsel.

John L. Strong, previously the director of Albertson's brands, assumes the new position of vice president of Albertson's brands. Strong reports to Dave Dean, group vice president of procurement.

Dennis Schwarz has been named vice president of Albertson's Oregon division in Portland, Ore. Schwarz was manager of the Oregon division for the past year. In this new position, Schwarz reports to Dennis Lucas, senior vice president and regional manager. Albertson's Oregon division includes 49 stores in western Oregon and southwestern Washington.

Albertson's operates 863 food-drug retail stores in 20 Western, Midwestern and Southern states.

Bashas' Appoints VP of Operations

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Bashas' Markets here has announced the appointment of Mike Proulx to the new position of vice president of retail operations. Proulx has been part of Bashas' for 30 years, several of which he spent as Northern division supervisor. He reports to Al Basila, executive vice president of retail operations.

Also moving into new positions at Bashas' are Mark Barnett, named vice president of merchandising, and Ike Basha, named vice president of retail support. Barnett was director of merchandising. Basha has worked in the area of special retail projects for the past 18 months and continues to do so in his new position, where he reports to Wayne C. Manning, president of Bashas'.

In the distribution area, Bashas' said Charlie Abraham, part of the company for 37 years, has been named senior vice president of product procurement. Abraham is now responsible for purchasing retail products for Bashas' stores and reports to Manning. Duane Proulx was appointed senior grocery buyer. He had been grocery buyer.

In addition to his current position as chief financial officer, Darl Andersen takes on administrative responsibilities as the new senior vice president of administration/finance. He also reports to Manning.

Edward N. Basha 3rd was named vice president of retail development, and continues his work coordinating and selecting new store sites.

QA, Safety Director Named at Hannaford

SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Hannaford Bros. here has named Corey Hedman to the new position of director of food safety and quality assurance.

This new position consolidates several functions, including that of director of quality assurance, said a company spokeswoman.
