Supervalu Names 4 To Division Posts

as named four executives to new divisional posts.

Thomas Kwasny was named president of the new Mid-Atlantic division, which is a combination of the company's Maryland and Reading, Pa., wholesale food divisions.

Supervalu said the new Mid-Atlantic division will supply some 225 independently owned retail food stores in eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, Washington, Virginia and West Virginia from its distribution facilities in Perryman, Md., and Reading.

Kwasny, an 18-year veteran of Supervalu's Wetterau subsidiary, most recently was president of the company's Reading wholesale food division.

He reports to Jeff Noddle, executive vice president and president of Supervalu's wholesale food companies.

In another executive change, William Shaner was named president and chief operating officer of the company's 42-store Laneco division.

Shaner has been with Supervalu for 11 years, most recently as president of the Maryland wholesale food division.

He reports to Larry Anderson, executive vice president and president of the company's retail food group. Shaner succeeds Frank Bennen, who recently left the company.

Supervalu also named Michael R. Witt director of marketing for its St. Louis division, a new position.

Witt has been with the company since 1974, most recently as director of merchandising and sales. He reports to Len Slade, president of the division.

The company also named Celeste A. Kososki director of retail development for its St. Louis division, a new post. She also reports to Slade.

Kososki has been with the company since 1989, most recently as real estate development manager in Supervalu's Pittsburgh division.

Albertson's Taps Idaho Manager

BOISE, Idaho -- Albertson's here has named Gary Spiers manager of the company's Idaho division.

He assumes the duties of Richard Allen, who is retiring after 35 years with the company.

Spiers, who is based at division headquarters here, is responsible for 37 stores in Idaho, Oregon, Nevada and Wyoming. He reports to Al Rowland, senior vice president and regional manager.

Spiers has been with the company since 1969, most recently as district sales manager in the Florida division.

Bozzuto's Appoints Vaughan

CHESHIRE, Conn. -- Bozzuto's here has named Doug Vaughan director of human resources. Vaughan fills a position that had been vacant for six months.

Vaughan reports to Tom Zatina, executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Before joining Bozzuto's, Vaughan was a human resources manager for Edwards Super Food Stores, Windsor Locks, Conn., a subsidiary of Ahold USA.

Burke Joins NAWGA As a Vice President

FALLS CHURCH, Va. -- The National-American Wholesale Grocers' Association here has named Kevin Burke vice president of government relations.

Burke assumes the position from Bruce A. Gates, who is leaving the association to become a partner with the law firm Oldaker, Ryan and Leonard, Washington, where he will act as a lobbyist. Burke reports to John Block, NAWGA president.

Since 1987, Burke held the same post for the American Bakers Association, a group representing the wholesale baking industry. Prior to that, he was director of government relations for the National Association of Broadcasters.
