Bill Vitulli Retires From A&P VP Post
hat Bill Vitulli, vice president of government and community relations, has retired after 60-plus years with the company.
While in high school, Vitulli began as a delivery boy at an A&P store in the Bronx, N.Y. He served in a number of store-level positions in virtually every department.
After spending four years stationed in Japan as a regimental communications officer with the Army, Vitulli returned to A&P and held positions of increasing responsibility, from director of sales for the Bronx division to head of the division. In 1980, he moved to A&P headquarters and was named to his most recent position.
Michael Rourke, senior vice president of communications and corporate affairs, could not say whether anyone will succeed Vitulli.
Ten Executive Posts Changed at Minyard
COPPELL, Texas -- Minyard Food Stores here has named two executives to new positions and given eight others new titles.
Charlie Burns, formerly vice president of advertising, was named senior vice president of marketing, a new position.
Ron McDearmon, the former vice president of retail operations, was named senior vice president of planning and development, also a new position.
Jim Conine, previously vice president of properties, was appointed senior vice president of properties.
Joe Tarver, formerly vice president of purchasing, was tapped as senior vice president of purchasing.
Randy Shuffield, previously director of advertising, was named vice president of advertising.
Gary Price, formerly a merchandiser, was appointed vice president of merchandising.
John Shaver, previously the director of specialty departments, was tapped as vice president of Minyard Food Stores.
Ted Fullerton, formerly director of the Minyard division, was given the title of vice president of Minyard.
Steve Killebrew, previously director of the Carnival Food Stores division, was appointed vice president of Carnival.
Terry Stapleton, formerly director of the Sack'N Save Food Stores division, is now vice president of Sack'N Save.
Minyard operates 80 stores in Texas under the Minyard, Sack'N Save and Carnival banners.
FMI Adds Education Director
WASHINGTON -- Food Marketing Institute here has appointed Ernie Monschein director of operator education services, a new position.
He is responsible for developing and coordinating training and education programs focusing on the needs of independent operators. He reports to Michael Sansolo, group vice president of industry relations and education.
Monschein most recently was director of training and management development at Edwards Super Food Stores, Windsor Locks, Conn. Prior to that, he was management development supervisor at Food Lion, Salisbury, N.C.
FICAH Elects Three to Board
WASHINGTON -- Food Industry Crusade Against Hunger here has elected three new trustees to its board.
David Merrefield, executive editor and associate publisher of SN, was named a FICAH trustee.
Other executives named to the board were Gerald G. Austin, executive vice president of marketing for Fleming Cos., Oklahoma City, and Harold Tregellas, president and chief executive officer of Mega Force Co., Smyrna, Ga.
