GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Fresh Market, a chain of almost 70 specialty groceries based here, has announced that it will open a new 20,000-square-foot format in Winston-Salem, N.C., featuring a center deli island, as well as an increased selection of prepared foods and a larger produce department, according to published reports. The store, scheduled to open by year-end, will anchor the city's new Mount Tabor Place shopping center, and will replace another 20-year-old Winston-Salem location in the nearby Thruway Shopping Center, spokeswoman Catherine Ogle told the Winston-Salem Journal. The Fresh Market — a chain whose relatively small store formats feature full-service meat, seafood, deli and prepared food departments that emphasize convenient shopping trips for perishables — is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and has announced several new store openings in Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Alabama and North Carolina.
