PATAK'S FOODS WINS ENGLAND'S EXPORTER AWARD

MINNEAPOLIS -- Patak's Foods USA, a manufacturer of Indian food distributed by Melting Pot Foods here, earned the top award this year at the Food Export Awards, sponsored by Food from Britain, Greenwich, Conn., and Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. (HBSC). Patak's Foods, which produces Indian food for the retail and catering industries, was honored with London's "Exporter of the Year" award at a ceremony in December.

During the past two years, the company's exports have risen by nearly 32%, the statement said. International sales have been boosted by an investment of more than $17 million in a new state-of-the-art production facility in Leigh, England.

"Our strategy is to cultivate overall consumer interest in Indian cuisine in other countries, making Indian food as popular overseas as it is in the U.K.," Pathak said. "As interest in Indian food grows worldwide, Patak's Foods will offer consumers a complete range of authentic products, allowing even the most inexperienced cook to create a delicious Indian meal at home."

Patak's Foods began exporting 26 years ago. Its annual sales are in excess of $58 million, and its products are available in more than 45 countries.
