BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Thanks to Quality Food Centers here and several Center Store vendors, about 150 Washington teachers were sent to summer school.

Weeklong "Teach the Teachers" class sessions were held during July and August at the Forks, Wash., campus of the University of Washington. The sessions taught teachers about important emerging educational trends, including science study via the World Wide Web, integrating web-based resources into the curriculum, and creating community histories with World Wide Web resources.

To help support its sponsorship of Teach the Teachers, QFC enlisted the help of its vendors, who ran "Teach the Teachers Specials" in QFC stores. Participating Center Store sponsors included Post Cereals, Del Monte, Ocean Spray, Haagen-Dazs ice cream, Sargento MooTown Cheeze & Crackers, Totino's frozen pizza, Ragu spaghetti sauce, Welch's frozen fruit drinks, DiGiorno Rising Crust Pizza, Farley's candies and Old El Paso Mexican foods.

Savings on the featured products ranged from 50 cents on Old El Paso refried beans and MooTown snacks to $4.57 on the purchase of three pints of Haagen-Dazs ice cream, sorbet or frozen yogurt.

The featured products received prominent mention in QFC's weekly circular and were also highlighted in-store.

"There were special shelf tags to direct shoppers to the featured Teach the Teacher products on the shelves, and also signs around the store calling attention to the items," said a QFC spokeswoman.
