The idea for the study group came from conversations at FDI industry relations committee meetings. DeFabis said the new committee, now composed of wholesalers, expects to involve manufacturers as well.

"A spark flew at our industry relations meeting when this issue came up, from both sides," he said.

"Among most people I talk to -- both wholesaler and retailer -- the common lament is they are not happy with retail coverage. That's true for manufacturers too."
