CAMP HILL, Pa. — Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., right, spoke with Carl Schlicker, left, chief executive officer, Giant Food of Carlisle, Pa., and shoppers in a Giant Food store recently about the impact of credit card interchange fees. Last year Specter held a Senate hearing on interchange fees and found what he later called a “disturbing pattern of anticompetitive conduct by credit card companies.” John Motley, senior vice president of government and public affairs, Food Marketing Institute, said FMI is “pleased that Sen. Specter is taking time to look at this problem firsthand and talk directly with the people who have to pay the bill. We hope Sen. Specter and his colleagues will keep up the pressure on the big credit card companies and force them to do the right thing for retailers and consumers.” FMI is a member of the Merchants Payments Coalition.
