SIAL 2006 TO HOST SIAL D'OR AWARDS

PARIS - The world's most successful, innovative new consumer packaged goods product will be named as the Global SIAL d'Or award winner here on Oct. 23. The awards are held in conjunction with SIAL 2006, the biennial international trade show.

size format makes it more widely consumed, was voted best in category of Sweet Frozen Products and best in country (United States) during the two-day judging, held here earlier this year. A panel of trade journalists, including Supermarket News, made up the jury members representing 26 countries.

The jury scored 208 products that were submitted for nomination in eight categories: alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages, chilled dairy, chilled non-dairy, savory frozen, savory grocery, sweet frozen and sweet grocery. Products were scored based on innovation, commercial success and meeting a market need. Those products with the highest score won country or category awards. All category winners go on to compete for the overall award.

All nominated products, representing the most successful product launches since SIAL 2004, will be on display during the exhibition.

This year's SIAL 2006, Oct. 22-26, at the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center, is expected to draw over 136,000 visitors from 183 countries to view products in 15 product sectors represented by 5,200 exhibitors.

The trade show will feature a dedicated area of affordable wines; fine-food, coffee and tea pavilions, and fair-trade products. A first for the show will be store tours in Paris and London that present an overview of the latest concepts and trends in food retailing.

Nutrition is also a big focus. Village Nutrition, an international symposium consisting of four roundtable discussions and 22 conferences with nutritionists, sociologists and leading trade professionals, will address issues such as compliance with public policies.
