BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Supermarket industry veteran Roger Stangeland received the Food Marketing Institute's Sidney Rabb award last week at the association's Midwinter Executive Conference here.
industry executives who have already received the prestigious award, which honors a distributor for a lifetime of exemplary service.
In accepting the award, Stangeland, a former chairman of the Washington-based FMI, presented an optimistic view of the industry's future. "We will largely achieve the full promise of Efficient Consumer Response," he said. "We will harness technology and information on behalf of our consumers. We will provide those consumers with a wide range of attractive meal solutions. We will ensure a still safer food supply with and for consumers. We will enrich our work forces and management teams with true diversity. And we will find better ways to meet the needs of the underserved urban communities of America."
