NORTHLAKE, Ill. -- Dominick's Finer Foods here has signed a contract with Glacier Water to place indoor vending machines inside all its stores, according to a Glacier Water spokeswoman.
d, Calif.-based Glacier Water created the indoor water vending machines so it can expand into the Midwest and Northeastern markets where cold weather makes outdoor water vending machines impractical.
The indoor vending machines are currently in place in about 100 locations and have met with strong sales and customer and retailer acceptance, the company said.
The indoor machine uses the same technology as the outdoor Glacier machines, sterilizing tap water through a multilayered filter and a reverse osmosis process that removes dirt, rust, algae, chlorine, salts, lead, mercury and pesticides. The machine hooks into the local municipal water supply, filtering the water fresh while the customer vends.
