COLORADO SPRINGS — Grocery Manufacturers Association last week presented its 2010 Hall of Achievement Award to A.G. Lafley, former chairman, president and chief executive officer of Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble.

“When you talk about the leaders who have had the most significant impact on the consumer packaged goods industry over the past several decades, A.G. Lafley is at the top of everyone's list,” said Pamela G. Bailey, president and CEO of GMA, at the association's annual Executive Conference here. “He has shown a lifelong commitment to our industry and his record of achievement as a businessman and as a community leader is both remarkable and inspiring. It is with great pleasure that we recognize his many contributions with this award.”

Lafley retired from P&G in February after 32 years with the company. During his tenure as president and CEO, beginning in 2000, Lafley is credited with spearheading a focus on consumer-driven innovation at the company and expanding the company's portfolio of leading brands.

He served on the GMA board of directors from 2000 to 2009, and he has been a champion of inter-industry collaboration through such initiatives as New Ways of Working Together and his efforts to establish the Global Consumer Goods Forum. He was named to SN's Power 50 in 2008.

The GMA Hall of Achievement Award honors the extraordinary service and contributions of the consumer packaged goods industry's most distinguished leaders. Now in its 26th year, past recipients include Jeffrey Noddle of Supervalu, Robert Rich of Rich Products Corp., Stephen Sanger of General Mills, Jim Kilts of the Gillette Co. and Joseph Pichler of Kroger Co.
