'Take a Peak' Gains Momentum

Shop 'n Save here is the latest retailer to support the “Take a Peak” in-store nutrition program. Giant Eagle reportedly has also committed to the effort.

PITTSBURGH — Shop ’n Save here is the latest retailer to support the “Take a Peak” in-store nutrition program. Giant Eagle reportedly has also committed to the effort. Sponsored by the Grocery Manufacturers Association/Food Products Association, the Food Marketing Institute and MatchPoint Marketing, Take a Peak is designed to help promote foods featured in the government’s MyPyramid.com food guidance system. These include fruits, vegetables and lean meats, as well as products that are low in saturated fat and trans fats. Take a Peak promotional vehicles also communicate broader health and wellness tips for consumers as provided by MyPyramid nutritional guidelines. Once an individual product/brand gets approved for Take a Peak, it may then be promoted with various Take a Peak in-store media tools, including shelf tags, educational brochures, coupons, floor graphics, in-store radio and direct-mail communications. Retailers can customize the program via so that no two companies have the same execution. Shop ’n Save and Giant join a total of 21 retailers, or 2,000 stores, are either already executing or have committed to participate in Take a Peak. Along with its in-store efforts, Shop ’n Save’s website provides a link to www.mypyramid.gov, which provides personalized healthy eating plans.
