Safeway, TV Star Team for Cancer Research

PLEASANTON, Calif. — TV star Angie Harmon is the spokeswoman for Safeway’s fundraising campaign for prostate cancer research and treatment.

Harmon, who stars in the TNT television drama “Rizzoli & Isles,” appears in print and 30-second broadcast public service announcements this month.

Prostate cancer currently affects more than 2 million American men and remains the second-leading cause of cancer death for men in the U.S. One in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime.

In the PSAs, Harmon promotes the sale of $2.99 limited-edition reusable shopping bags printed with the words, “It starts with a wish; it can end with a cure.” Two dollars from the sale of each bag will benefit prostate cancer research.

The bags are available at all Safeway locations, as well as online at safewayfoundation.org. Shoppers can make a separate donation at checkout stands.

Stand Up To Cancer and The Safeway Foundation are sponsoring the campaign.
