Three Dahl’s Foods Inc. stores will close and the inventory liquidated as part of the Des Moines-based grocer’s bankruptcy.

Court documents filed Tuesday show that Dahl’s will hire a liquidation company to clear out stores at 8700 Hickman Road, Clive; 5003 E.P. True Parkway, West Des Moines; and 3400 E. 33rd St. in Des Moines.

Equity Ventures Commercial Development is expected to buy the Hickman Road store and convenience store chain Kum & Go Inc. has proposed buying the E.P. True property. Court documents indicate that the East 33rd Street store also will be closed.

No closing dates have been set for any of the stores.

Dahl’s plans to hire Great American Group Inc. to sell the inventory. The company will guarantee Dahl’s $1.98 million from the liquidation and keep any proceeds above that guarantee. Court documents listed the value of the inventory at the three stores at $2.9 million as of Dec. 27.

Dahl’s hired Great American to liquidate three other stores — in Ames, Ankeny and West Des Moines — that the company closed in the past year.

Dahl’s filed for reorganization bankruptcy Nov. 9, reporting $41 million in debts and about $45 million in assets. Dahl’s landlord at several of its properties and its supplier, Associated Wholesale Grocers of Kansas, has offered to buy the Des Moines grocer, which has seven remaining stores.

Equity Ventures, of Topeka, Kan., has said it plans to redevelop the Clive site. Kum & Go has not disclosed what it plans to do with the West Des Moines property, but with the liquidation it likely will not continue operating as a grocery store.

Bankruptcy Judge Anita Shodeen is expected to approve the sale of Dahl’s assets and other matters connected with the bankruptcy at a hearing Friday morning.
