CRENSHAW ASSUMES CEO ROLE AT PUBLIX
LAKELAND, Fla. — Ed Crenshaw was expected this week to take the reins as chief executive officer of Publix Super Markets here. As previously reported in SN, Crenshaw, president of Publix, was expected to take over for Charlie Jenkins Jr., who is retiring March 31. Jenkins would retain his seat on the board of directors and become chairman of the executive committee. Jenkins, a nephew of Publix founder Howard Jenkins, has worked for Publix since 1969. He became CEO in 2001. Crenshaw is a grandson of the founder and has worked for Publix since 1974. Todd Jones was expected to take Crenshaw's place as president. Jones is a senior vice president at Publix who has been with the company since 1980.
FRESH ENCOUNTER TAPS TWO AS CO-PRESIDENTS
FINDLAY, Ohio — Michael S. Needler, chairman and chief executive officer of Fresh Encounter here, announced the appointment of Eric J. Anderson and Todd O. Perry to the position of co-presidents. Together they will be responsible for the management of Fresh Encounter. Anderson will be primarily responsible for all merchandising and marketing, while Perry will be primarily responsible for general management and operations. Anderson joined the company in 2000 as vice president of marketing. Perry joined the company in 2003 as chief information officer and director of strategy and organizational development.
AHOLD PROMOTES TWO VPS IN FINANCIAL SERVICES
CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores and Ahold Financial Services here said Kris Murphy has been promoted to vice president of process performance and internal controls for U.S. Retail, and Wade Bucher has been appointed vice president of audit for U.S. Retail. Murphy has been responsible for process performance and internal controls within Giant-Carlisle and Ahold Financial Services, but as a result of consolidation, she will now be responsible for all Ahold USA internal control activities, including those at Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover. She has worked for several Ahold companies in various capacities. Bucher has served as senior director of internal audit for Giant-Carlisle and Ahold Financial Services. In his new position, he will lead efforts in the further integration of the Ahold USA internal audit team.
BIG Y PROMOTES HORACEK, COPPOLA TO NEW POSTS
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The board of directors of Big Y Foods has announced the appointment of Frank J. Horacek as vice president of real estate and development and Anthony P. Coppola as director of facilities management. In his new position, Horacek will be responsible for management of Big Y's real estate portfolio, new store development, and store maintenance oversight at all 57 Big Y locations. He will report to Charles L. D'Amour, president and chief operating officer. Horacek came to Big Y in 2004 as director of real estate. Coppola, meanwhile, will be responsible for all facilities management, reporting to Horacek. Coppola joined Big Y in 1983 as a refrigeration technician.
SUPERVALU'S TLC NAMES WESTERMANN PRESIDENT
HOLLAND, Mich. — Total Logistic Control, the independent third-party logistics unit of Supervalu, has named Pete Westermann its new president. Westermann, who served as TLC's chief operating officer since 2006, succeeds as president TLC's chief executive officer, Bob Koerner, who is retiring later this year. Westermann brings more than 20 years of industry leadership experience to his new role. Prior to joining TLC, he was president and CEO of third-party logistics provider Universal Solutions.
