NEWARK, Del. — Industry trade associations will hold a cantaloupe food safety guidance webinar series, the Produce Marketing Association announced on its From Field to Fork blog.
Originally slated as a guidance meetings in four locations, the webinar format was adopted instead “to engage a broader number of stakeholders across the supply chain,” wrote Lee Mannering, PMA government relations and public affairs manager.
The first webinar on Monday, April 2 at 1pm EST “will kick off the entire process and detail its scope, purpose, methodology, and how the webinar series will operate,” according to the blog post. Register for the webinar here.
The announcement said that a cantaloupe food safety guidance — which will address supply chain operations — is expected to be ready for review by August 1.
The industry has been looking to develop specific guidance for cantaloupes after the multistate Listeria outbreak linked to cantaloupes grown by Holly, Colo.-based Jensen Farms last year resulted in 146 illnesses and 30 deaths.
