SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Hannaford Bros. Co. here said it plans to convert all of its stores to the Hannaford banner over the next two years to strengthen the connection between its Hannaford corporate brand and the store name.

The company said it plans to convert 12 stores in Portland, Maine, to the Hannaford banner in late fall, she said, but she declined to indicate the timetable for converting 33 other stores in Maine, 22 stores in New Hampshire or six in Massachusetts.

The company adopted the Shop 'n Save banner for its stores early in its 118-year history when it went into retailing as an equity partner with a variety of local operators, who used the Shop N Save banner in combination with their own names on the stores.

Hannaford was acquired by Belgian retailer Delhaize Group last year.
