Haggen is laying off 87 people at a store in Puyallup as it closes the location prior to handing it off to Albertsons, according to a notice by the state Employment Security Department.

Albertsons says that once it takes over, those staffers will have the opportunity to return to work.

According to court filings, Haggen was required to deliver each of the 30 stores it sold back to Albertsons “dark.”

Most of these stores have already closed, but the Puyallup one remains open. Earlier this month Haggen asked a bankruptcy court in Delaware to let it start a liquidation sale in that location before March 10 before turning it over to Albertsons.

The layoff notice was filed on January 8, and will become effective on March 8. Albertsons says it doesn’t have a definite date for the store’s re-opening under its own brand, but that it will occur shortly after Haggen closes it.
