Some members of the Ahold USA family of stores are preparing to introduce a logo designed to help consumers locate better-for-you food choices. Both Stop & Shop and Giant Stores will be part of the rollout, according to Jim Dwyer, Ahold USA's chief business development officer.

Called “Healthy Ideas,” the program will initially include approximately 10% of the products sold in the stores. Qualifying items will have to meet or exceed certain criteria set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. They'll be displayed with the Healthy Ideas logo and new shelf labels.

Dwyer, who leads branding activities at Stop & Shop and Giant, announced the program at a recent media day tour. He said the new symbol is part of an effort to boost Stop & Shop's and Giant's credibility for providing “great food.”
