The EatWell store in Columbia, Mo., occupies the space of a former Lucky’s Market, whose lease Schnuck Markets acquired in the specialty chain’s bankruptcy auction.
One of the first prepared-food counters that customers see upon entering is a ramen and sushi bar.
Local sourcing and healthy living are core elements of EatWell, which houses a “natural living” department as well as bulk foods.
The meat and seafood department includes items cooked in-store as well as an array of store-made sausages, a Schnucks specialty.
Due to COVID-19, prepared foods in the deli area are being prepackaged so customers can easily and safely take them home.
A wing bar is among the hot food offerings inside EatWell.
EatWell’s deli counter also serves up an array sandwiches, which also can be made to order.
Besides being a former Lucky’s Market, the EatWell site also was a previous location of the current Schnucks supermarket now at 1400 Forum Blvd. in Columbia.
At the cafe, shoppers can order a specialty coffee, local draft beer, root beer, kombucha, glass of wine or other beverage whipped up by the on-site barista.
EatWell customers also will find a selection of bouquets in the floral and gift area.
“It is not the first time that we’ve launched a specialty store concept. Over our history, we have experimented and tried different formats,” Schnucks CEO Todd Schnuck said.
“It’s been on our radar for quite a while, and it’s such a growing segment,” Schnuck said of EatWell. “Providing healthy choices is one of our priority areas.”
