Michigan Kroger stores push healthy eating with hospital partnership

Kroger Co. stores in Michigan will encourage shoppers to eat healthy through a new partnership with Henry Ford Health System.

Starting Wednesday, Henry Ford — a six-hospital system based in Detroit — will provide a weekly dietitian-developed recipe in all 126 Michigan Kroger stores through a program called LiveWell Wednesdays. Recipe brochures will include an ingredient list as well as a link to a video cooking demonstration.

The retailer will also host Henry Ford LiveWell experts every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. through September at stores in Commerce Township, Dearborn, Shelby Township and Southgate. Experts will discuss topics such as food labeling, healthy substitutions, food allergies and food trends.

"Providing customers nutritious and delicious food is what we do every day," Rachel Hurst, consumer affairs manager, The Kroger Co. of Michigan, said in a press release. "We welcome the opportunity to partner with Henry Ford Health System to help customers learn to make healthy choices and prepare foods for the greatest taste and nutrition."
