To promote social distancing and improve customer traffic flow, Smart & Final is rolling out a single-line queuing system at all of its 255 stores.

A sign at the front of the store indicates where shoppers line up for checkout.

The use of a swing gate helps ensure customers maintain the proper physical distancing.

A digital screen at the checkout lanes prompts customers to move to the next available cashier.

To help shoppers go to the right spot, a flashing light shows the newly available checkout lane.

Digital signage also reminds customers about social distancing.

As of mid-April, Smart & Final began requiring all associates to wear face masks.

Shoppers, too, were required to wear face coverings in Smart & Final stores starting in mid-April.

Unlike most stores, Smart & Final has installed double plexiglass windows — and at some locations a back panel — at all cashier stations.

Smart & Final said it regularly sanitizes its shopping carts and indicates newly cleaned carts with a sign.

Floor markers have been placed in stores to serve as a social distancing guide for customers.

High-frequency touch points like keypads and checkout counters are part of cleanings that store personnel conduct at the top of every hour.
