KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Balls Food Stores here has selected the vbEPIX electronic check processing system from Balance Innovations, Lenexa, Kan., to facilitate check processing and cut manual labor costs. The system is being employed with Epson’s CaptureOne check scanner.

Balls Food, which operates 29 stores under the Hen House and Balls Price Chopper banners, has used Balance Inoovations' VeriBalance cash office management system for several years. The vbEPIX system integrates with VeriBalance and the POS system to reconcile, at the check level, check images with the POS. Employees take images of checks with the check scanner as part of the till-balance process, and check data and images are transmitted electronically for processing. Checks no longer need to be physically transported to the bank.

The combined systems "have made a tremendous impact on how we balance checks," said Mike Beal, chief financial officer for Balls Food, in a statement. "The solution is easy for our teammates to use and is a seamless, simple process for converting all check types."
