Big Y Foods said yesterday that it will close one of its stores here next month, according to local reports.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Big Y Foods said yesterday that it will close one of its stores here next month, according to local reports. Last month, the privately owned company also said it was seeking to reduce its staffing by an undisclosed amount through voluntary layoffs.

The 64,000-square-foot store slated for closure opened 17 years ago, according to the report on MassLive.com. The chain opened a new store nearby in 2008 and had recently remodeled another Springfield location.
