Cake Ordering Kiosk in Test

ADDISON, Ill. — Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets, a six-store retailer here, is testing a cake ordering kiosk from ADUSA Hoffman Estates, Ill., which calls it the first such kiosk in the grocery industry.

The kiosk, which allows shoppers to select cake types, fillings, frostings, toppings and decorations, is getting increasing usage as customers become more familiar with the ordering process, said ADUSA. Orders are sent to bakery staff in the store, as well as to an off-site manufacturing facility. Contact information for customer is captured by the system in case questions arise before, or during, manufacturing.

“We continue to find that self-service is very helpful to our customers and therefore in line with our strategy to make our stores as convenient and pleasant as possible to shop,” said Robertino Presta, chief executive officer, Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets, in a statement. “Our deli kiosks have been well received by our clientele, and we expect the same will be true of the bakery kiosk.”
