FMI Launches Private-Label Initiative

Food Marketing Institute yesterday said it would launch a private-label initiative “to provide industrywide leadership, education and advocacy” for private-brand products.

ARLINGTON, Va. — Food Marketing Institute here yesterday said it would launch a private-label initiative “to provide industrywide leadership, education and advocacy” for private-brand products.

“This initiative is a call to action for all sectors of the industry and all classes of retail trade to highlight the exceptional value of store brands to consumers, especially in these challenging economic times,” said Leslie G. Sarasin, FMI’s president and chief executive officer, in a prepared release. “FMI will work with retailers, wholesalers, distributors, manufacturers and other trading partners to facilitate innovation and increase consumer awareness of private-brand products.”

FMI said its board approved the new initiative at a meeting last month. The announcement comes just as the Private Label Manufacturers Association is wrapping up its annual PLMA Show in Chicago.
