GREENSBORO, N.C. — Members of the founding family behind The Fresh Market here have resigned their posts but will stay on board members, reports said last week: Brett Berry, chief executive officer, and Michael Barry, chief financial officer — the son and son-in-law, respecitvely, of founder Ray Berry — are leaving their executive positions the fast-growing, small-format chain.

According to the Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area, the Berrys have turned over control to Craig Carlock, who was chief operating officer and is now serving as president and CEO. The transition will take place over the next several months and would include a search for a new CFO, the report added.

The Fresh Market last year said it was looking for new investors but abruptly pulled the company off the market in July, saying its founders “fell in love with the company all over again.”

Officials at The Fresh market were not immediately available for comment.
