PITTSBURGH — Giant Eagle here has reached an agreement to acquire five western Pennsylvania stores from Tops Friendly Markets, the companies said Tuesday.
The stores, operating under the BiLo Foods and Quality Markets banners, are former Penn Traffic stores acquired in a bankruptcy auction earlier this year by Williamsville, N.Y.-based Tops. A purchase price was not disclosed.
Tops is expected to begin inventory liquidation at the stores, located in Brookville, DuBois, Johnstown, St. Marys and Titusville, immediately, and the transfer is expected in 30 to 45 days. Giant Eagle said it would reach out to its independent owners about operating the acquired locations.
Giant Eagle said it also acquired pharmacy records for the Brookville, DuBois and Johnstown locations and plans to operate the existing pharmacies at Brookville and DuBois. Pharmacy files from the Johnstown location are being transferred to a neighboring Giant Eagle store.
