WASHINGTON — The Grocery Manufacturers Association is applauding Sen. Tom Harkin, D -Iowa, and Reps. Ron Kind, D-Wis., Jim Gerlach, R-Pa., Jay Inslee, D-Wash., and Tim Johnson, R-Ill., for the reintroduction of the Fitness Integrated with Teaching (FIT) Kids Act in the House and Senate.

The act would increase children’s physical activity throughout the school day and ensure that they learn how to live healthy lives through exercise and diet.

“Eating a balanced diet and getting plenty of exercise is the key to achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” said Pam Bailey, president and chief executive officer of GMA, in a prepared statement. “It’s vital that America’s schoolchildren are all afforded the opportunity to learn this critical life lesson.”
