Industry Veteran Herz Named EVP at A&P

MONTVALE, N.J. ‹ A&P here yesterday said it had named Paul Herz executive vice president, operations.

MONTVALE, N.J. — A&P here said it had named Paul Herz executive vice president, operations. He succeeds Mark Kramer, who A&P said left the company to pursue other interests, as reported earlier this week by SN.

Prior to joining A&P, Herz was executive vice president of retail stores for OfficeMax, and before that he has held vice president posts at Wild Oats Markets, ShopKo and Fred Meyer Inc., a division of Kroger Co.

Sam Martin, named chief executive officer of A&P last month, also joined the company from Office Max, where he had been chief operating officer. Both Martin and Herz also worked at Wild Oats, which had been partly owned by investment concern Yucapia Cos., which now holds a stake in A&P. Yucapia also previously owned Fred Meyer Inc. before it was sold to Kroger.

"With his high-level skill set and vast experience, [Herz] not only believes excellence can be achieved, but he is also able to illuminate the path to it," said Christian Haub, A&P's executive chairman.
