Ling Named Unified President; Plamann Still CEO

LOS ANGELES — Unified Grocers here said Wednesday Bob Ling has been named president. Al Plamann, who was president and chief executive officer of the member-owned cooperative, will remain CEO.

LOS ANGELES — Unified Grocers here said Wednesday Bob Ling has been named president. Al Plamann, who was president and chief executive officer of the member-owned cooperative, will remain CEO.

Ling, who has been with Unified and its predecessor company, Certified Grocers of California, for 15 years, was executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary.

According to Plamann, "This change makes us stronger as an organization and enhances our opportunities for success in the years ahead."

In his new position Ling will focus on growing sales and strengthening the company's business partnerships with its retail members, customers and vendors. Plamann will continue to work with the board of directors to set the strategic direction of Unified.

Prior to joining Unified in 1996, Ling was vice president, general counsel and secretary and later acting president and CEO of MegaFoods Stores, Mesa, Ariz. Earlier he was vice president and general counsel at Reliable Drug Stores, Indianapolis.
