TORONTO — Loblaw Cos. here was named as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers of 2011 by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, a competition among Canadian businesses.
The retailer was recognized for having built a new downtown store conforming to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), utilizing motion-activated lighting in coolers, state-of-the-art low-temperature refrigerant for coolers and reclaiming waste heat energy for heating the store; as well as for building a LEED distribution center in Surrey, British Columbia.
Loblaw was also cited for efforts to reduce waste and for promoting locally sourced foods.
