Lund Makes Cake Pops

EDINA, Miss. — Lund Food Holdings has added “cake pops” to its pastry cases.

The trendy bakery items are golf-ball-sized balls of moist cake mixed with ganache, dipped in chocolate, decorated with sprinkles or icing, and served on a stick.

Several companies sent Lund their own versions of the treat, but Lund found them to be dry, crumbly and tasteless. So it enlisted its pastry chefs to try making them on their own.

“I knew our own pastry chefs could do better,” Amy Fouks, the retailer’s bakery category manager, wrote in the company’s official blog. “And sure enough, they rose to the challenge and came up with some of the most scrumptious bite-sized desserts.”

Fouks describes cake pops as “the cutest, most fun dessert you’ve ever tried.” She suggests buying them for wedding or baby showers, wedding dessert tables, neighborhood get-togethers, or an after-dinner treat. “They’re portable, easy to serve, great for kids and adults. No extra silverware needed,” Fouks wrote.
