Meijer Slashes Toy Prices

Meijer cut retails on more than 350 toy products Wednesday as part of a “Price Drop” program.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer here cut retails on more than 350 toy products Wednesday as part of a “Price Drop” program.

The price reductions are another wave of the retailer's ongoing Price Drop program, where thousands of unadvertised items — ranging from health & beauty products to clothing — are reduced in price every day, the company said in a press statement.

The Toy Price Drop program includes virtually every toy category, with discounts up to 50% off Meijer's normal low prices on some of the hottest items, including everything from Barbie and Disney Princess Dolls to Transformers and Toy Story 3 toys.

Other reduced-price items include toys from such popular brands as Fisher Price, Nerf, Hasbro and Mattel.

Meijer is also offering the popular Webkinz Plush Toys for $7, a 30% price reduction from the original price of $9.99. Shoppers can save even more money by combining these price drops with Meijer's popular Santa Bucks promotion throughout the month of December. The promotion offers in-store coupons up to $30 off.

David Stickney, merchandise manager for toys at Meijer, said in a broadcast video, that the sales trend is an “elongating” of the traditional selling season, which runs from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

“We really start seeing prices get lower right now. Those prices are going to be very competitive throughout the entire season. That, coupled with a very tight supply of toys this year, will make for a very interesting season. So if there is an item on [shoppers] list, and it is the right price, we recommend buying it now,” Stickney said.
