NGA Scores Record Attendance

LAS VEGAS — The National Grocers Association said Wednesday its annual convention here was the largest in its history, with more than 2,400 independent grocers, wholesalers and suppliers in attendance.

Exhibit floor space rose 25% from a year ago to nearly 35,000 square feet, the association said; and the number of exhibitors rose 10% to more than 200.

According to Peter Larkin, NGA president and chief executive officer, "Our goal for this year's show was to strengthen the value proposition for attendees by expanding the trade show and increasing opportunities for more industry collaboration. As a result we experienced record attendance and increased participation."

IGA co-located its annual Global Rally with NGA's convention this year; the Produce Marketing Association created a produce pavilion on the exhibit floor; and the Grocery Manufacturers Association created a "center for collaboration" on the show floor for retailers to talk with suppliers.

Larkin said next year's convention is scheduled for Feb. 9 to Feb. 13 at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, the same venue as this year's event.
