DEFIANCE, Ohio — Chief Super Market here, which operates 12 stores, including four under the Rays Super Markets banner, has deployed the Hawkeye video auditing system from Agilence, Camden, N.J., to reduce point-of-sale losses.

The chain began deployment of the system software in late-2009 and will complete the rollout to all locations by 2011.

“In order to keep our prices competitive in an industry that operates on strict margins, we need to be proactive in minimizing shrink activities beyond just typical fraud incidents,” said Stephanie Skylar, president and chief executive officer of Chief Supermarkets, in a statement. The video system “allows us to do this by keeping us in control at the point of sale.”

The system pulls data directly from the POS and synchronizes it with video. This enables retailers to detect issues immediately and before they cause considerable shrink, including operational and promotional issues as well as employee theft and fraud, said Agilence.
