Raley's Offering Clerk Buyouts

Raley's Supemarkets is offering buyouts to 100 of its store-level personnel, a chain spokeswoman told SN yesterday.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Raley's Supemarkets here is offering buyouts to 100 of its store-level personnel, a chain spokeswoman told SN yesterday.

The offer will be available to 3,000 of the chain's 15,000 union and non-union store clerks, though only the first 100 applicants will be accepted, Nicole Townsend said. The deadline for the buyouts is mid-July, she added.

"The idea for buyouts was suggested to us by some employees, and we looked at it and decided to move forward with it," Townsend explained. "At the same time, it will enable us to bring back some people who were affected by seasonal layoffs after the holidays."

In April, Raley's said it was laying off an undisclosed number of employees in its corporate operations, primarily in the areas of facilities and construction.
