Safeway Launches Natural Cookies

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway here continues to expand its Open Nature natural private-label line with the launch of packaged cookies.

Sold in the bakery department, the new chocolate chunk cookies are made without any artificial flavors or preservatives and no high fructose corn syrup.

“I like to warm them up for about 15 seconds in the microwave so the chocolate starts to melt and the butter flavor really starts to come through,” writes “Kate,” Safeway’s official blogger.

Safeway launched Open Nature this year with a variety of beef, pork, chicken and other products raised on an all-vegetarian diet, without the use of antibiotics or added hormones, and processed without the use of artificial preservatives.

The line has since expanded into other categories, including includes yogurt, peanut butter and fresh bread.
