Save-A-Lot Hits Road to Publicize Savings

ST. LOUIS — Save-A-Lot, Supervalu's limited-assortment chain, announced Wednesday it has begun hitting the road on a month long road trip to 10 U.S. cities to promote the chain as a source of affordable, high-quality food with saving up to 40% off.

The "Save-A-Lot Fuel Your Family" road trip will feature two brand ambassadors, referred to as "road scholars," who plan to clock 4,000 miles in a Subaru Forester, the official car for the promotion, visiting Save-A-Lot stores in key markets.

Along the way, the ambassadors will attend community events, visit Save-A-Lot stores, conduct random acts of kindness, and share tips for easy road trip snacks, as well as affordable breakfast and lunch ideas.

The pair will share stories, photos and videos of their adventure at Facebook.com/savealot and @savealot. They’ll also make donations totaling $25,000 on behalf of the company to local Feeding America affiliates in road trip markets, helping these organizations with their hunger-relief efforts in their communities.

"Road trips are a tradition for many families in the United States, and with the high cost of gas a concern for many consumers, we want to show how Save-A-Lot can help 'fuel your family' with fresh, quality food and simple meal ideas at savings of up to 40%, compared with traditional grocery stores," said Mark Kotcher, Save-A-Lot director, brand marketing and design.

The road trip will travel through the states of Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, Illinois and Tennessee, and conclude just before Labor Day.
