Schnucks Sees Values in Greeting Cards

ST. LOUIS — A Schnuck Markets spokesperson said greeting cards is part of the grocer’s one-stop-shopping proposition and he couldn’t foresee not selling them despite the fact online sales have taken their toll on sales.

“I don’t think we would ever completely get rid of greeting cards — especially Christmas cards. That’s part of our one-stop-shopping experience that we always want to provide,” Paul Simon, a Schnuck spokesperson, told the Webster-Kirkwood Times in a report Friday on U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., urging Americans to send more greeting cards in an effort to help save U.S. postal workers’ jobs.

The Greeting Card Association reports holiday greeting card sales at about $1.5 billion, down from $2.7 billion in 1995.
