Smart & Final Promotes Four to VP

LOS ANGELES — Smart & Final here said it has promoted four directors to be vice presidents at the warehouse-style chain.

LOS ANGELES — Smart & Final here said it has promoted four directors to be vice presidents at the warehouse-style chain.

Matt Reeve was named vice president of grocery and frozen food, reporting to Diana Godfrey, group vice president of buying. Reeve joined Smart & Final in 2004 and most recently was director of category management for perishable and frozen categories. He had previously worked at Ralphs.

Daryl Zgodzay was promoted to vice president, meat, deli, service deli and bakery, reporting to Mike Mortensen, senior vice president of sales. Zgodzay joined Smart & Final in early 2010 as director of meat, dairy, deli and bakery. For the four previous years, he was the director of meat, seafood, service deli and bakery for Jon's Markets. Prior to his job with Jon's Markets, Zgodzay spent 21 years with Food 4 Less and served as the vice president of meat, deli and service deli/bakery.

Will Miller was promoted to vice president, produce and floral, reporting to Mortensen. Miller joined Smart & Final in 2009 as director of category management for produce. Before that he spent 25 years with Food 4 Less. The last 13 of those years, he was director of produce operations.

Richard Romero has been promoted to vice president, merchandising, reporting to Mortensen. Romero joined Smart & Final as director of value merchandising in 2007 and a year later was selected to lead a new category management merchandising team as director of merchandising. Immediately prior to joining Smart & Final, he oversaw value merchandising for 65 Ralphs stores. He began his career as a courtesy clerk at Boys Markets and subsequently worked at Alpha Beta and Ralphs.
