CHICAGO — More than 40 specialty food manufacturers, importers and retail members of the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade will be showcasing 1,000-plus specialty food products at Chicago Gourmet this weekend.

The food, wine and spirits event will run Sept. 25 to 26 in Millennium Park.

“We are excited to bring specialty food from so many talented entrepreneurs to the consumers who will be attending Chicago Gourmet,” says Ann Daw, president of NASFT, New York. “They will have the opportunities to sample great food, and meet the people who created it.”

Specialty items will be featured in the foodspring.com pavilion — everything from Washington state pickled asparagus to toffee pudding to Cajun spices to applewood-smoked bacon. Exhibitors include Al Dente Pasta Co., Organic Valley, Rishi Tea, and Sugar & Spice Extraordinary Sweet Treats.

There will also be a “Sofi” tasting pavilion featuring 21 gold winners from the 2010 Sofi competition. The Sofi (specialty outstanding food innovation) winners were chosen from 2,257 entries. Consumers will be able to vote for their favorite Sofi winner at foodspring.com.
