Wegmans Shoppers Raise More Than $1.7 Million for Hunger

Wegmans raised more that $1.7 million in customer and employee donations through its fall and winter Check Out Hunger and Care About Hunger campaigns.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans here raised more that $1.7 million in customer and employee donations through its fall and winter Check Out Hunger and Care About Hunger campaigns. The programs allow shoppers to donate $1, $2, $3 or $5 at checkout, with 100% of the proceeds going to each store’s local food bank. The amount raised represents a 3% increase over the previous year’s campaigns. “For contributions to rise 3% in an economy where consumers are struggling to stretch every dollar is incredible,” said Linda Lovejoy, Wegmans’ community relations manager, in a statement. “Our customers and employees seem to understand that the need for service from food banks is also greater than ever, and they’ve responded very generously.”
