Weis Freezes Prices Again

Weis Markets kicks off a 90-day price freeze on 3,000 staple items today.

SUNBURY, Penn. — Weis Markets kicks off a 90-day price freeze on 3,000 staple items today.

Eligible private labels and national brands in Center Store, frozen, dairy, produce, meat and bakery departments are identified with shelf tags.

Earlier this year the chain lowered and froze the price on 2,400 items for 90 days. Six hundred additional products have been added to the second phase of the Price Freeze program. It runs through July 15.

“At a time when unemployment continues to surge in many of our markets —in some areas to as high as 10%—our Price Freeze program is designed to offer meaningful, long-term savings to our customers,” said David Hepfinger, president and chief executive officer of Weis Markets, in a statement. “We estimate our initial Price Freeze program helped our customers save approximately $5 million and hope to save our customers even more in the coming months.”
