Giant Eagle’s GetGo pumps up fuel savings

AdvantagePAY program serves up per-gallon discounts

Giant Eagle’s GetGo Café + Market convenience chain has launched a fuel discount program linked to the company’s Advantage rewards program.

Called AdvantagePAY, the program gives members a savings of 5 to 30 cents per gallons each time they fill up at a GetGo fuel center. To get the instant discount, customers sign up and then scan and pay using their Giant Eagle/GetGo Advantage Card.

Giant Eagle said AdvantagePAY, powered by debit program manager ZipLine, is currently available in the Pittsburgh and Cleveland markets.

The AdvantagePAY discounted price is displayed atop the fuel price marquee. Giant Eagle noted that, although the discount is variable, it will always be less than the regular price of fuel. In support of the new program, the retailer is offering customers an extra savings f 30 cents per gallon for the first 60 days after they enroll.

“AdvantagePAY will allow guests to see immediate, significant savings at the pump,” GetGo spokeswoman Jannah Jablonowski said in a statement. “With gas prices on the rise and holiday travel season fast approaching, AdvantagePAY is a simple and secure way to save on fuel costs.”

Besides the savings, AdvantagePAY offers another secure payment option; customers just have to scan their card and input a personal, four-digit code, Giant Eagle said. Customers link their Advantage Cards to their checking accounts when they enroll in AdvantagePAY. GetGo pays the processing fees on the transaction and passes on the savings to AdvantagePAY members. To sign up, shoppers need an active Advantage Card.

The AdvantagePAY discount to GetGo gas customers comes in addition to benefits from Giant Eagle’s enhanced fuelperks+ loyalty program, which the retailer finished rolling out chainwide in March. By one scanning their Advantage Card, members receive the instant AdvantagePAY discount of up to 30 cents a gallon in addition to their chosen fuelperks+ benefit. They also have the option to stack their savings to get to a free tank faster by redeeming their Perks, which will be applied after the AdvantagePay discount, or to earn Perks for every gallon pumped.

Under fuelperks+, members earn 10 cents in fuel discounts for each $50 spent (equal to 50 perks) — including on groceries, gift cards, prescriptions and fuel — and can redeem those rewards however they like, up to a free tank of gas (30 gallons maximum) or up to 20% off any size grocery order (no limit). One perk is earned for each dollar spent on groceries and other eligible items at Giant Eagle and Market District supermarkets and GetGo C-stores. Two perks are earned for every gallon of fuel pumped at GetGo.

With AdvantagePAY, customers are limited to $200 in savings per 48-hour period ($750 weekly) and seven transactions per day. Those redeeming fuelperks+ perks and using AdvantagePAY are limited to 30 gallons of fuel per transaction.

Giant Eagle operates 216 grocery stores under the Giant Eagle, Market District, Market District Express and Giant Eagle Express banners plus 258 convenience/fuel locations under the GetGo and Ricker’s banners in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana.
